Duck Season? No It's Strawberry Season!

My favorite time of the year! The first couple weeks of June. School is out, summer has started. We welcome warm weather, shorts, sprinkles and STRAWBERRIES!

There is nothing better then the sweet smell of homegrown (well Gessners this year) of strawberries. I have a few plants in my garden however the birds seem to like them as much as I.

A Photographer's Garden

Here it is only May 9th and I have already enjoyed fresh vegetables from our garden. Nope, I haven't moved to warmer climates. Due to warm(er) March and April and a clever husband, my dinner plate has already seen radishes and lettuce.

Randy built this raised garden the middle of March and he couldn't but help himself to planting some seeds even before April hit. We had a couple freezes since then but Randy went out and covered his delicate plants and so the colder temperatures didn't hurt them a bit.

Now I would be in trouble if I didn't share that this wonderful masterpiece is self watering. It has tubes that run through the bottom of it that allows the moisture to be soaked up from the bottom up. Also there is no dirt in this garden. It is all some sort of potting soil that contains no actual soil.

The radishes are ready to be picked. I am told there will be a second crop of radishes! What does one family do with so many radishes, I have no idea.

I keep telling Mr Honigford to thin out the carrots because I don't think these little guys will grow to much size crowed in there like that. We had no idea they would take so well.
The leaf lettuce, if we can keep up with cutting it, should produce an ample supply for the next several months.

Mr Honigford has picked some onions for our salad. They aren't ready yet, but that doesn't seem to keep them from being picked.

I also will at some point have tomatoes, peas, green beans, zucchini, and peppers. Not sure which one this is of those but it is planted in the 'old' garden.

I will have no excuse to not increase my vegetable intake in the next several months. I am a lucky lady to have some a wonderful husband with a green thumb. Until now, I had no idea. :)

#1

The Ottoville Lady Green are once again ranked in the state. This year they hold that #1 spot. Undefeated on the year, the girls appear to be in very good shape for a long tournament run. Fingers crossed!

Trick or Treat With Joyce Anne Photography

This year I am doing something a little new with Halloween then in the past. What I love the most about Halloween and Trick or Treating is watching the children getting so excited about the goodies they receive when they go out. And what a great photo opportunity it can be!

So this year, I am giving away a FREE session in which I will trick or treat (in Ottoville) along with you and your child and take your little monster's pictures. You will also receiving a 5"x5" photo book. If the weather is not good enough to take my camera equipment out, the session will be scheduled and held indoors on another day.

To enter, submit a picture of your child (ages 1-6) of your child in their costume via email ( joycehonigford@yahoo.com ) by October 14th. I will then upload the images to my facebook page. If you add me as a friend, I can tag you in the picture so that it appears on your wall. The photo with the most likes on it on October 22, 2011 will win the FREE session and photo book.

October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month

To build awareness for animals in shelters in need of a home, in October I am going to hold a "Cutest Dog Photo Contest."

I never thought of myself as a dog person (you know...one of those people!!!) but then I adopted Molly, a puppy mill rescue Maltese Poodle. We adopted her when she was seven months old. She had spent her first five months of her life in a horrible puppy mill where she was kept inside a garage with very little contact with others. Now Molly is like my baby and I can't imagine life without her.

Dogs who spend time in these puppy mills risk high health problems, abuse, and often have many psychological problems. Often the dogs are raised for pet stores which is why I do not support adopting a pet from these stores. When looking to adopt a pet, go to your local shelter or find replicable breeder. You also can find great pets to adopt at www.petfinder.com

The contest will run from October 1st through the 15th. Email me with pictures of your dog (no professional pictures please) to joycehonigford@yahoo.com In the subject line of the email put "pet photo contest", and then in the email write the name of your pet, how old he/she is, and your name.

I will then upload your pictures. If you add me as a friend to your facebook, I will tag you in your picture so that it posts to your wall. The photo with the most likes will receive a free sitting for their pet and get a $20 print credit.

Mommy | 2 B |

Jessica's little boy is not due until October, which is a good thing as she says she is going to miss pregnancy. However I'm sure when he is born, she will be ready to meet him!

Taylor | Senior |

Taylor says she has never done any kind of modeling, but I am not sure I believed her. She was so natural with the camera and her talents and beauty made my job very easy!

when we say | I DO|

The clouds rolled in just moments before Jesse & Rilee were to say your vows, however the rain held off and the ceremony went off without a hitch. Rilee looked gorgeous in her gown and I could tell by Jesse's smile, he thought so too!

Back To School Photo Contest!

Now through the end of September, submit your child's back to school picture. I will then upload it to my facebook page and the picture that gets the most votes by 9/30 will win a FREE session and a $50 print credit!
